Five trial in Criminal and Victim Services

#WeekInJustice: Week 185

In the Criminal and Victim Services Divisions, we were running five trials this week including a very complex abusive head trauma of an infant and a groundbreaking texting while driving manslaughter. As of this writing, the results are not yet known, but once again the People’s Office and area law enforcement are pouring thousands of hours of labor into holding those who would cause harm accountable.

In Civil, the written word was the story. Normally, writing a brief for the Arizona Supreme Court is a month’s long process with multiple attorneys helping with multiple revisions. But in election law, things move so fast that yesterday our own Dan Jurkowitz was given TWO HOURS to produce a critical brief. I loved reading every word of his persuasive prose.

And in Appeals, Chief Bill Brammer wrapped up his first summer law clerk program with us, full of feedback and excitement to start up the fall program. I had EXTRAORDINARY legal writing professors at UA Law, but for these clerks to be coached by a career appellate judge is priceless.
