#WeekInJustice: Week 171

Another high intensity week here at the People’s Office:

  • In Criminal, Attorney Andrew Brown secured a conviction in a hard-fought felony domestic violence case, where our assessment of “ongoing threat of harm,” was high.
  • From our Civil and Land Use Division Attorneys James Rappaport and Jacob Kavkewitz have been on a roll with win-win settlements that protect ground water, it also keeps small businesses open and employees on the job.
  • We spent time with the UA Cooperative Extension and ASU researchers (I know, don’t look at me, Bear Down,) to talk about future plans to support caregivers to children of incarcerated parents.
  • We filed an emergency motion with the Arizona Supreme Court following the legislature’s repeal of the 1864 Territorial Abortion Ban.
  • Today we say goodbye, good luck, and see you soon to our departing Special Victims Unit Bureau Chief Tracy Miller and Legal Secretary Jennifer Garcia. And a member of our Communications Team.
    • Tracy was with us 31 years and now becomes Judge Tracy Miller!
    • Jennifer was with us 18 years and now becomes Judicial Assistant Jennifer Garcia!
    • Community Events Coordinator Sofia Blue is moving on up into her new role within Pima County as the Division Manager of the Affordable Housing Unit at Workforce Development.
  • And, today we say hello again to Brad Roach.  In the early 2000s, Brad was a superstar SVU trial attorney, and it is fitting he will now become SVU Chief.  Not because of the trial wins, but because of the way he mentors and manages and leads and serves.  His constant reliability as a source of encouragement is exactly what the hard-working attorneys and staff of SVU deserve.

To be continued,
